ARE YOU READY TO BE AN ORIGINS GERMAN SPITZ PARENT? HOW TO ADOPT

It is very important to me that my puppies find their “forever homes” so that they dont end up having to be rehomed.

All applications for one of my puppies should be made through this website - Applications.

You can also send me enquiry emails through our Contact Us page.

When making an application I will ask you to tell me a little bit about yourself and the kind of home you would offer a puppy. I would like to know -

  • why do you like this breed?

  • what research have you done to ensure this is the type of dog that would suit you and your particular situation?

  • what are your plans for your puppy in the future? Do you want a pet? Are you interested in showing your dog? Or maybe training them in obedience? Or maybe you want to breed your dog in the future?

I will perform either a telephone or face-to-face interview to ensure that you are a suitable parent for one of my babies.

Upon successfully passing the interview, you will be asked to leave a deposit to secure a puppy. If for some reason, you decide not to proceed with the adoption, your deposit will be fully refunded to you.

The balance of the price will be payable either on collection of your puppy, or prior to collection (if the puppy is travelling interstate or overseas).

The cost of the puppy covers the following:

  • pre-mating tests for the Dam and Sire (Mum and Dad) such as eyes, ears, knees/patellas;

  • ultrasounds, veterinary support and other birth-related tests and medication required for your puppy’s mum during her pregnancy;

  • raising the puppies - all puppies are raised in my home but they require a LOT of work;

  • special food for mum and babies;

  • vet checks upon birth and at 6 weeks (and any other items required prior to the puppy’s departure to their new forever home - all our puppies are microchipped before being re-homed;

  • we check general health of the puppy, knees/patella, eyes, ears, teeth etc but we also do full genetic testing;

  • all puppies are registered with Dogs Victoria and all owners receive a Pedigree Certificate (either full if you want to breed your dog in the future or limited if your puppy is going to be a pet)

If you live interstate, I can arrange interstate transport for your puppy. My preferred pet carrier is Jetpets unless you would like me to use another service.

In partnership with Pet Plan, I offer 6 weeks of free pet insurance to allow you sufficient time to research and find a pet insurance plan that is suitable to you (if you chose to take out pet insurance). Although I perform rigorous tests and screenings, I cannot control acts of nature or environmental incidents. You need to do what is right for you and your dog.

I personally use Woolowths pet insurance and have never had an issue.

WHAT’S NEXT?

AND WHEN I PICK UP MY PUPPY?

All approved owners will be invited to join our Facebook page where you will find frquent updates on the status of mum and babies. Photos and videos will be uploaded so you can see your new puppy grow.

If you are local (Victoria), you are welcome to schedule a visit with me to see your baby in person - these meetings can be scheduled to take place from 10 days post their 6 weeks vaccinations to prevent placing the puppies at risk from diseases and infections.

Of course, you can also meet me and we encourage you to do this so that you can meet the dogs in person.

There are annual meet-ups with all the dogs I have bred and I also exhibit at the Melbourne Dog Expo - come and say hello. At these meetings you will also have the opportunity to meet the “family” and speak to the other owners of my dogs. It’s a wonderful support group that you also have access to in the future.

Puppies are usually ready to go to their new homes from around the 8 weeks of age.

With your puppy you will receive:

  • pedigree papers;

  • microchip details and instructions on how to transfer ownership of the chip to you;

  • immunisation record;

  • puppy pack;

  • any advice required to settle your puppy into their new home.

YOU WILL ALSO RECEIVE 24/7 SUPPORT to make the transition as easy as possible not only for the puppy but also for you. Typically this will be used in the early stages of settling in, but the support lasts your dog’s lifetime. You will also have a network of owners through our Facebook Support page who you can ask advice from. Remember, they have all been there.

I consider myself a grandparent to all my puppies and so I encourage all owners to keep in touch - I love to see photo and video updates of all my babies. You can send me as much as you want to either by email or message me through my Facebook or Instagram pages.

If for any reason your personal circumstances change and you are not longer able to look after your dog, I will assist in re-homing them. It is very important to me that my dogs are NEVER surrendered to shelters or pounds. I ask that all owners talk to me about any issues with the care of their dog so that we can work out a solution together.

It is SO important to me that we grow the ‘fan base’ of the German Spitz and I encourage all puppy parents to spread the word about the beauty and diversity of the breed. I also encourage all owners to train their new puppies with basic mannes to ensure the breed is always seen in good light.
