A LITTLE BIT ABOUT ME and ORIGINS KENNELS

My name is Damien and I am the founder of “Origins”, a small kennell located in Melboure, Australia. I am a registered dog breeder with Dogs Victoria, governed by the Australian National Kennel Council (ANKC), breeding German Spitz Mittel.

I was introduced to this amazing breed in 2013 when I started exhibiting my first dog ‘Bane’. Having developed a great passion for the breed, I wanted to play my part in its promotion, conservation, and improvement.

The prefix ‘Origins” has many meanings to me but was most strongly influenced by my love of comic books (particularly the X-Men series). As my breeding program grows, the influence of this theme is more and more reflected in the names of my kennel’s progeny. It brings my two interests together nicely and as I think of the breed as my own superheroes, it is only fitting that they carry the names of some of my favourite characters (hero and villain alike)!

I have been fortuate to have had two wonderful foundation dogs (‘Bane’ and ‘Nina’) to start my breeding program, the dogs getting their origins from well established kennels such as Borndownunda, Atetac, Neuboree, Fyreburst and Llancarfan to name just a few. My goal is to work to maintain the high level of standard of the breed which we have in Australia.

In 2016, my kennel was joined by ‘Havok’ from Halmukan Kennels in Finland. Havok’s arrival expanded the gene pool in Australia and this beautiful dog has since become the centre of my breeding program.

It is my great hope that I can continue the promotion and development of his amazing breed not only by continuing the breeding program but also by showing them in the show rings around Australia and introducing them throught the public at dog-related events like the annual Dog Lover’s Expo.

RESPONSIBLE BREEDING

I am a supporter of Oscar’s Law. Where it is appropriate, the ‘adopt, don’t shop’ mentality is always the preferred choice. Origins is delighted that changes to the laws regarding dog breeding and sale of cats and dogs in petshops have been introduced In Victoria, but there is still a long way to go. A lot of the change comes through educating future dog owners about the amount of work, love and care responsibile breeders put into the animals from the very beginning.

Origins doesn’t just breed puppies because they are cute. They are. But even before litters are planned, each doggy-parent also goes through rigorous genetic and physical testing to make sure that only the best traits, free from genetic abnormalities and physical problems, are passed down through the generations. Origins wants the owners of their dogs to enjoy each and every day with their four-legged family member without having to worry about future vet bills. We do our best to make sure that your dog will be with you for a very long time.

Let’s hope I see the end of puppy farms during my lifetime.
