PERSONALITY

The German Spitz is a happy, intelligent and friendly dog. They are active and altert and should not show signs of nervousness or aggression. They love human company and like nothing better than to be included in your family activities.

Keep in mind though that every dog has their own personality and will develop at their own rate. They get a lot of their personality from their mother’s temperaments as well as the puppy’s experience and behaviours during the “imprinting period” (first four months of age.

It is critical that new owners correctly train and socialise their German Spitz puppies.

BUT NOTE

German Spitzes are stubborn and will do best with training, patience and LOTS of positive rewards. In that way, they are very similar to young children. They are emotional, will sulk at any sign of aggression towards them and will push boudaries if you let them.

They ARE loyal companions who will stay by your side - but they will ignore your instructions at will.

They ARE extremely intelligent dogs who can be training to do just about anything - but they need a good reason to do whatever you have asked of them (they get bored easily!)

They will walk all over you if you are not firm enough with them, but they will shut down if you are too firm. You need to walk the line!
